My Story
The journey from one family’s kitchen to a healthcare mission.
How a girl from Malacca became a registered dietitian, founded Home Dietitians, and made it her work to help people understand their own health.
Where It Began
Before nutrition became my profession, it was already part of my family’s story.
I grew up in Malacca. Like most Malaysian families, ours lived around the table: food was love, celebration, comfort and habit, long before I ever thought of it as medicine.
Becoming a Dietitian
Dietetics gave that instinct a discipline. I trained, qualified, and registered with the Malaysian Dietitians Association under registration MDA S2017-002. The learning never stopped: a professional portfolio in nutritional medicine at University College of Yayasan Pahang, certification as a diabetes educator with the International Diabetes Federation, and SCOPE certification from the World Obesity Federation for managing overweight, obesity and metabolic conditions.
Credentials matter to me for one reason: the people who sit across from a dietitian deserve advice that stands on evidence, not opinion.
Working With Patients
More than eight years of one-to-one consultations taught me what no textbook could. My clinical work has centred on diabetes, kidney disease, cancer nutrition and weight management, in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia, whichever language lets a patient speak freely.
The lesson that shaped everything since: a nutrition plan is only as good as a person’s ability to live with it on an ordinary Tuesday.
Building Home Dietitians
In 2023 I founded Home Dietitian Consultancy Sdn Bhd, better known as Home Dietitians, on a simple idea: registered dietitian care should meet people where they live, not only where hospitals stand. Today the practice sees clients at our clinic in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, and online across Malaysia.
Expanding Into HDC Medical
Nutrition never works in isolation, and neither should nutrition care. A meal plan tells you what to change; a blood panel shows you why. So I co-founded HDC Medical, where blood tests and health screening, customised supplement support and HRD Corp claimable corporate programmes sit alongside the consultation work, delivered with doctors, pharmacists and fellow dietitians under one roof in Mutiara Damansara. Home Dietitians helps people act; HDC Medical helps them see.
Educating Companies and Communities
Somewhere along the way, the consultation room became a stage, then a training room, then a radio studio. As an HRD Corp accredited trainer I deliver corporate wellness programmes on diabetes, cholesterol and cardiovascular health, hypertension, weight management and chronic disease prevention. My commentary has been featured on 8TV, Ai FM and BFM.
Different audiences, same job: take what the evidence says and turn it into something a real person can use before dinner tonight.
The Next Chapter
The mission has not moved an inch since Malacca: help people understand what is happening inside their bodies, and give them a practical way to act on it. The next chapter is about scale, through education, partnerships and public speaking.
