The year of hearing no

The first year of building a dietitian consultancy: rejections from institutions, requests to work for free, and the question that kept the business alive.

The first year of building a dietitian consultancy taught me more about healthcare than any classroom. Medical institutions said no. Some asked whether nutrition consultations could simply be free. More than once I heard the question behind the question: can a dietitian business even survive here?

The question I kept returning to instead: why do people need us, and what mutual benefit brings the best value to patients? Answering that honestly, over and over, was the marketing strategy.

By the end of that first year the consultancy was earning properly and demand kept growing, with expansion plans on the table for 2024. The rejections did not stop being painful. They stopped being the point.
